Ducks and Guns Don’t Mix  – Ban Duck Shooting

Animals Tasmania (AT) and concerned citizens are ready to protect native ducks on the eve of the 2018 duck shooting season. Rescuers will take to wetlands

to help save native ducks.

Chris Simcox today for Animals Tasmania said: “The failure of the Tasmanian Government to give full protection to native ducks means that once more we are needed to help native waterbirds caught in the firing line. We can expect to see more horrendous suffering as ducks are wounded and left to die a lingering death from starvation and exposure.”

“Why is Tasmania is having a recreational duck shooting season when Professor Richard Kingsford’s latest aerial survey shows waterbird numbers are at historically very low levels across eastern Australia. Many wetlands throughout eastern Australia are dry. Native waterbirds are in serious trouble with no reprieve in sight,” said Mr Simcox.

“Concerned members of the public are again having to take responsibility for protecting native waterbirds in Tasmania. We will be on the wetlands starting with the opening morning on 10 March with our rescue teams , to help Australian native waterbirds.” Mr Simcox concluded.
