Thank you Animals Tasmania. It’s strange that some people don’t think fish feel pain – of course they do. Pain is a signal to avoid the thing causing the pain.
Farming fish is cruel: they get diseases, deformities, little ones get bullied by bigger ones, and then they get killed having no chance to escape.
Your website contains misinformation/incorrect information to the public and discredits your integrity.
Dairy bull calves/bobby calves DO have legislation governing their care and handling before slaughter.
Under the Animal Welfare Act 1993 there are provisions for this.
The Animal Welfare Guidelines – Trade and Transport of Calves, Including Bobby Calves Section 3.2 states
“3.2 Feeding Prior to Collection
When a calf is collected from the farm gate, it should have been fed its normal ration on the
morning of collection so that it can withstand the rigors of transportation, saleyards and the
waiting period before slaughter. Tasmania’s Animal Welfare Guidelines – Cattle state that calves
should be fed within 12 hours of transportation.”
Thanks for your comments. In light of this we will review our information to ensure it’s accuracy. Please note that ‘guidelines’ and ‘codes of practice’ are not ‘legislation’, they are not legally binding. They are created to instruct people as to what they ‘should do’, not what they ‘must do’. They are merely advisory documents that may be used in court to determine if a particular practice contravenes the Animal Welfare Act. Therefore there is no legislation that says one must treat bobby calves in a ceratain way, and that you will be punished if not.
The fact remains that cow’s milk is for baby cows (calves) and human milk is for baby humans. There is no requirement for any human to ever drink the lactation fluids of another species. To do so is likely to bring harm to the human (as invariably it does), as much as it brings harm to the non-human from which it is being taken. Dairy cows and their calves are among the most abused animals on Australian farms. Sadly too few people know the real horror of ‘dairy production’.
I had no idea there was any animal testing in Tasmania ! I’m shocked. Can you please supply the names of the companies involved and if possible their locations so I can organise a protest/boycott.
Hello,
The main offenders for animal research (testing) are the universities: U Tas (over 22,000 animals in 2012), U Syd (>6000 animals), and also La Trobe, Murdoch, Deakin and ANU. The worst offender is DPIPWE (nearly 52,000 animals in 2012). The CSIRO come in quite high (5700 in 2012). Others include Entura, Zoetis, Virbac, Novartis, Jurox, though there are no recent stats for some of them.
Some of the research is non-invasive and may just be survey work, because permits are required for this sort of ‘research’. As such care needs to be taken in assessing who is doing what and it would be a good idea to do your own research into what activities each business or agency is undertaking before planning any action. Feel free to get in contact with us for assistance, or if you want to know more.
Thanks for your interest!
congrats on the new website! thank you for all you do for all the animals. will be joining up myself and my partner online over the weekend. look forward to helping out in the near future 🙂
Why dont you just have a vegan march since the nonvegan public are the drivers of demand for animal use and without them there would be no slaughterhouses. Why are so many groups in Australia afraid to put veganism up front and centre?

I want to go back to this beautiful place, and I want everyone to see how wonderful it is, and how these hunters destroy this wonder.
